BOX SCORE

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA.-- The Gwynedd Mercy men's soccer team earned their second consecutive win of the season topping Delaware Valley College in a heated battled that ended 2-1 in overtime. The win leaves Gwynedd with a record of 2-7 overall.

The Griffins struck first when freshman Eric Smith (Deptford, N.J./ GCIT) connected a pass with sophomore Chris Black (Philadelphia, Pa./ Northeast) across the box to beat Aggie goaltender Austin Brotman. But the Aggies were quick to answer when senior Joey Feeg headed the ball past junior Griffin Matt Chilcote (Carlisle, Pa./ Cumberland Valley) to tie the contest at 1-1.

The Griffins and Aggies would go shot for shot for the remainder of the half and the game, finishing with 13 a piece.

A scoreless second half left tensions high entering overtime. In the fifth minute, senior Ryan Roedel (Langhorne, Pa./ Neshaminy) fired off a shot following a foul that bounced off the far left post. It wasn't until the final two minutes that Gwynedd would take the game. Junior Rich Mychack (Philadelphia, Pa./ Father Judge) knocked in the game winning goal after getting ahold of the deflected shot taken by Smith from across the box.

Chilcote would finish the game with four saves to solidify the win for the Griffins. The Aggies freshmen goaltender Austin Brotman would close out the day with five saves.

The Griffins continue with conference play against Cabrini College on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in front of a home crowd.
