true Gwynedd Mercy 1, Arcadia 0
BOX SCOREGWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy Men's Soccer team notched their first win of the season this evening with a 1-0 victory over Arcadia. Junior
Rich Mychack (Philadelphia, Pa./ Father Judge) Â scored early in the contest to help GM snap a seven-game losing streak to open the season.
In just the 11th minute, sophomore
Chris Black (Philadelphia, Pa./ Northeast) sent a pass through to the top left corner of the box to Mychack who buried a shot into the far right side of the cage for an early lead.
With tensions running high, both teams would push the tempo to no avail. Unfortunately five minutes into the second half, sophomore
Miles Kehs (Collegeville, Pa./ Spring-Ford) was taken off the field in an ambulance after suffering a blow to the head in the midfield.
The Knights (4-3-1) outshot the Griffins 13-7, overall and also lead in corners, 7-4. However, they could not beat sophomore goaltender
Ryan Oyola (Tabernacle, N.J./ Seneca) who saved five of Arcadia's shots on goal. Oyola records his first shutout of the season and second career clean sheet in the victory.
For the remainder of the game the Griffin defense shut down any offensive burst for the Knights, including three offensive chances in the final five minutes to help cement the win.
Gwynedd will aim for their next win in front of the home crowd on Saturday at 12 p.m. as they host Delaware Valley.
