true Washington College 3, Gwynedd-Mercy 1 CHESTERTOWN, MD. – Gwynedd Mercy fell at the hands of the Shoremen 3-1 to open the 2014 season at Washington College Friday afternoon.
The Shoremen struck first at 12:45 when sophomore midfielder Drew Thompson got a hold of a loose ball at the top of the box. Not long after,
Rich Mychack (Philadelphia, Pa./ Father Judge) evened things up after successfully executing a penalty kick at 22:23. But the Griffins could not hold off the Shoremen very long. Forward Cody Gray connected with Chris Lewandowski, putting the Shormen in front 2-1 at 24:05.
Entering the second half, the Shoremen led 10-2 in shots and had the upper hand in corner kicks at 4-2. At 87:41 Lewandowski would add his second and final goal to end the game.

Matt Chilcote (Carlisle, Pa./ Cumberland Valley) made six saves for the Griffins in a full 90 minutes of play.
Gwynedd Mercy will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Alvernia University at 6 p.m.
