Sophomore Chase Toliver was
up to his old tricks again,
winning the 60 meter hurdlesCOLLEGEVILLE, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy's Men's Track & Field Team finished fifth overall with 48 points, just seven points behind 2nd place in their season-opening meet at the Bow Tie Classic hosted by Ursinus College.
Sophomore captain
Chase Toliver (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) led the way, ranking first in the prelims of the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.58. He would go on to better his time in finals with a time of 8.40 to capture first place. Chase also finished fourth in triple jump with a best mark of of 13.03m (42'9''). Freshman
Byron Coleman (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) made is college debut in the long jump finishing in second with a distance of 6.44m (21'1.5''). Behind him in the standings was teammate
Isaiah Johnson (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest), also making his college debut. Isaiah would finish ninth overall with a jump of 6.04m (19'9.75'').
In the men's 60 meter dash, freshman
Rashaun Crawford (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) was the fastest Griffin to cross the line with a time of 7.23s. Teammate
Bobbie Stone (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic) finished ninth in prelims with a time of 7.25s. Bobbie's time is just .02s slower than his personal best of 7.23. Rashawn went onto finals where he bettered his time with a 7.21s finish and finished sixth overall.
Freshman
Matt Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) had a great performance in the men's mile after coming off an impressive cross country season, finishing second overall with a time of 4:36.14s.
The Griffins entered two different 4x200 meter relays to compete against each other. The relay of

Bobbie Stone,
Robert Allen (Philadelphia, Pa./Delaware Valley Charter) and Johnson finished in second place (first in their heat) with a time of 1:34.56 just .16 behind the first place team. The second relay team of
Mike Harris (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon),
Raymond Harris (Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara),
Ben Keliojor (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) and
Kylil Curry (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) finished in fifth place out of 20 relays with a time of 1:35.65.
"This was a great competition to see between the two relays. Bragging rights were on the table and it could have been even closer with a couple better exchanges," stated head coach
Kevin Clark.
Ray Harris finished fourth overall in the men's 200 meters with a time of 23.73s.
Kylil Curry ran an impressive race as well, finishing eighth out of 50 competitors with a time of 23.86s.
"The men's team has a lot of talent, especially on the sprint side. We couldn't be more excited about the future for the men's sprint team; great young talent under great leadership. The future for the men's sprint team is very bright. The coaching staff is looking forward to see how each individual progresses.
The team is off from competition until the new calendar year when they travel to Susquehanna University on January 16th for the Orange and Maroon Classic.
