BOX SCOREHACKETTSTOWN, N.J. -- Gwynedd Mercy suffered a tough 2-1 double overtime loss at Centenary on Tuesday.
The game featured two teams fighting for the #2 playoff seed and a first-round bye, but the Griffins (10-6-1, 7-2-1 CSAC) came up a bit short after taking a late lead.
Freshman
Meghan Petroski (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) broke a scoreless tie in the 70th minute with her seventh goal of the season.
Centenary's Samantha Sysak did the Griffins in with two goals on the day, the first coming with 3:50 left in regulation. Her second would come with 3:11 remaining in the second overtime for the golden goal.
Jess Tadley (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) fended off 28 Centenary shots, in which the junior registered a career-high 17 saves. Megan Williams recorded one stop for the Cyclones (9-7-1, 8-2 CSAC). GM would officially total four shots on the day.
The Griffins now have clinched at least a #4 seed and no higher than a #3 seed which in turn equals a first-round home playoff game on Monday, November 3rd. GM will end the regular season on Thursday, when they host Immaculata at 6 p.m.
