true GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA—The Gwynedd Mercy Women's Soccer team notched another Colonial State Athletic Conference win taking down the Gators of Notre Dame of Maryland University, 3-0, Saturday afternoon. The Griffins advance to 10-5-1 overall and 7-1-1 in conference.
Prior to kickoff, the team's three seniors:
Sara Nance (Lansdowne, Pa. / Arch. Prendergast),
Rae Stengel (Marlton, N.J. / Cherokee) and
Casey Gaughan (Philadelphia, Pa. / Villa Joseph Maria) were honored for their dedication along with their families by the team and coaching staff in a special ceremony.
The Griffins offense came on strong in the first half to give them an early lead. Just five minutes into the competition senior
Casey Gaughan (Philadelphia, Pa. / Villa Joseph Marie) found junior
Allison Bigos (Sicklerville, N.J. / Paul VI) across the box to put the Griffins up 1-0. Not long after Gaughan would fire a shot past Gator goaltender Heather Lancellotti (Perry Hall, Md. / Perry Hall) to keep the momentum alive. The Griffins would score one more goal in the half to go up 3-0 when junior
Kerri Petroski (Philadelphi, Pa. / Little Flower) would float a chip shot over the goalie after receiving a pass from freshmen
Megan Petroski (Philadelphia, Pa. / Little Flower).
The Griffins would keep the Gators from firing off any shots in the second half as their high tempo offense controlled the game. Gwynedd would fire off seven more shots in the half, outshooting the Gators 20-1 and take the advantage in corners 15-1 overall.
Junior goaltender
Jess Tadley (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill West) would close out the day with one save, while Gator goaltender Heather Lancellotti (Perry Hall, Md./ Perry Hall) recorded 10.
The Griffins are back in action Tuesday when they travel to Centenary for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
