BOX SCOREGWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. —The Gwynedd Mercy Men's Soccer team took time to honor their four seniors before Saturday afternoons matchup against the Pacers of Marywood University. Unfortunately, the Griffins fell to the Pacers 3-0 which leaves them at 6-11 overall and 4-4 in conference.
Prior to kickoff, the team's four seniors:
Ryan Roedel (Langhorne, Pa. / Neshaminy),
Tyler Walter (Oakwood, Ohio/ Oakwood),
Zac Clifford (Rushland, Pa. / Central Bucks East) and
Steve Pereira (Warminster, Pa. / William Tennent) were recognized for their dedication along with their families by the team and coaching staff in a special ceremony.
The Pacers took a 1-0 lead early in the first half when freshmen Dylan McMahon (Lansdale, Pa. / North Penn) got ahold of a loose ball in the middle of the box to score his first collegiate goal. The Griffins were unable to hit their mark only firing off one shot in the half. The Pacers would also take the advantage in corners at 5-0 heading into the break.
The Pacers would go on to score two more goals in the second half by sophomore Matthew Hull (Chalfont, Pa. / Lansdale Catholic) and junior Markus Donahoe (Foxboro, Mass. / Avon Old Farms) to put them up 3-0. McMahon and Hull would also record one assist in the half.
Junior goaltender
Matt Chilcote (Carlisle, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) would close out the day with five saves, while MU goaltender Justin Sunseri (River Vale, N.J. / Pascack Valley) recorded one.
The Griffins are back in action and fighting for a playoff berth on Tuesday at Immaculta. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
