BOX SCORE

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- A goal and an assist from junior Theo Horozoglou (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) plus six saves from goalie Jess Tadley (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) enabled Gwynedd Mercy to register a 2-1 win over Alvernia in non-conference action Monday night.

The game was a rescheduled affair from October 9th.

Horozoglou put the Griffins (9-5) on the board in just the fourth minute as she took a feed into the right side of the box from freshman Meghan Petroski (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) for her eighth goal of the season.

The Crusaders answered at the 14:58 mark as a bit of bad luck enabled a goal from Alvernia. Tadley would come out of the net to play a cross, but her attempt to clear the ball deflected off of Bailey Stover and the ricochet went right into the net.

The final score of the half came in the 21st minute when Horozoglou threaded a go pass behind the last Crusader defender to spring Casey Gaughan (Philadelphia, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) on a breakaway for the senior's team-leading 11th tally of the season.

Tadley would rebound later in the game and come up with two big saves in the stanza and a great stop on a shot in the second. She would register six for the game while her counterpart, Margaret Burnett had one stop.

Alvernia (5-11) outshot GM, 13-6, and 7-2 in the second half while placing a 3-1 corner kick advantage.

The Griffins will get right back at it on Wednesday when they travel to Rosemont and with a win, can clinch a playoff berth.
