true Gwynedd Mercy 2, Rosemont 1
BOX SCOREGWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Men's Soccer team won their second consecutive Colonial States Athletic Conference game defeating Rosemont, 2-1, Saturday afternoon in front of their home crowd.
With the win the Griffins (5-10) have now won three of their last four in CSAC play to bring their record to 3-3 and put themselves in the thick of the playoff hunt.
The Griffins got on the board early when
Eric Smith (Deptford, N.J. / GCIT) found the back of the net when he finished a through ball from
Rich Mychack (Philadelphia, Pa. / Father Judge) just 1:21 into the contest. Gwynedd would keep the pressure on the Ravens defense, striking again as this time Smith found
Ryan Roedel (Langhorne, Pa. / Neshaminy) at the 17:34 mark to give GM the 2-0 cushion.
Rosemont would not give in, cutting the lead in half when Javier Alvaredo would find his way through the Griffin defense to put away his shot at the 26:05 mark. The Ravens would have four more opportunities in the stanza but were unable to tie the game.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second half.Â
Matt Chilcote (Carlisle, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) would keep Rosemont astray with two huge saves in the half one in the 71st minute and the other with just under a minute remaining in the game. His counterpart Max McDonald made two saves for the Ravens (5-9, 4-2 CSAC) as well.
The Griffins return back to action on Wednesday traveling to Centenary for a 3 p.m. kick-off.
