Falcons Falter as Field Hockey Cruises to Sixth Straight Win Over Cedar Crest, 12-1

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. --  The Gwynedd Mercy Field Hockey Team hosted the Falcons of Cedar Crest College Tuesday evening for a great cause in Colonial State Athletic Conference action.  Playing 4 The Cure, both teams honored their friends, family and loved ones affected by cancer by sporting different color ribbons.

Playing for a cause pushed the Griffins to extend their winning streak to six games keeping them undefeated in conference play, 3-0, and 10-3 overall.

Team chemistry was at an all time high in the first half when the Griffins got on board early when freshmen Abigail Gabriel (Telford, Pa./ Souderton) scored off of a rebound in front of the cage.  Six more goals would follow in the half, with four being scored by junior Katie Hickson (Harleysville, Pa./ Lansdale Catholic).  Also finding the back of the cage were junior Stephanie Bacho (Cinnaminson, N.J./ Holy Cross), who also tallied two assists, and junior Katie O'Neill (Warrington, Pa./ Council Rock North).  Freshmen Melissa Russo (Saylorsburg, Pa./ Pleasant Valley) would also record two assists and Noelle Schillinger (Marlton, N.J./ Cherokee) would add one.

The Falcons only goal of the game was scored by junior Emily Rodenberger (Pennsburg, Pa./ Upper Perkiomen).

In the second half the Griffins would outshoot the Falcons 33-4 overall and also take the advantage in corners, 9-2.  O'Neil would record her second goal of the game just over ten minutes into the second half and also tally one assist.  Russo, Gabriel, Madison Reiss (Quakertown, Pa./ Pennridge) and Brianna O'Connell (Berlin, N.J./ Eastern) would tally one goal each.

Falcon goaltender Andi Dargis (East Hampton, NY/ East Hampton) would record 14 saves on the day as Cedar Crest was unable to gain their first win if the season.

Freshmen goaltender Samantha Soscia (Lambertville, N.J./ South Hunterdon) would record 3 saves to clinch the win.

Next the Griffins hit the road to take on Keystone at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
