LANGHORNE, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy and Cairn played to a 1-1 draw on Thursday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference action.
Both goals came early in the contest. The Highlanders (2-5-1, 0-2-1 CSAC) got on the board first when Amara Mills finished a cross that found the back of the net in the 4th minute.
The Griffins (0-6-3, 0-0-2 CSAC) would respond quickly when
Maura Gifford (North Wales, Pa. / Lansdale Catholic) capitalized on a free ball in the box that was set up by a beautiful give and go created by
Casey Gaughan (Philadelphia, Pa. / Villa Joseph Marie) to tie the contest 1-1.
Gwynedd would find themselves with two opportunities to score in the overtime periods but were unable to beat Cairn keeper Naomi Collipp.
Jess Tadley (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill West) recorded three saves for the Griffins. Collipp stopped nine shots for the Highlanders.
The Griffins return home Saturday to celebrate homecoming as they take on Centenary in a CSAC matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
