GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy used four goals on the penalty corner to go on and win 5-2 over visiting Misericordia in the season opener on Friday at the GMC Athletic Complex.
The Griffins scored on four of their 11 tries, including two tallies in each half. Senior
Brianne Kline (York, Pa./Central York) registered a goal and an assist while sophomore
Katie O'Neill (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) notched a personal-best three assists.

Stephanie Bacho (Cinnaminson, N.J./Holy Cross) just 2:27 into the contest for a quick 1-0 lead. Kline found the back of the net off a blast from another corner in the 16th minute as GM looked to set the tone. The Cougars answered with just over three minutes in the half on a score from Allie Elmes where it stood 2-1 at the break.
Gwynedd (1-0) put the game out of reach in the second half on the strength of three-straight goals. Senior

Cristen Pody (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) and junior
Brittany Wilson (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) all netted their first goals of the year.

GM outshot the Cougars, 11-9. Lindsay Hischak had the other MU score.
The Griffins will get back at it on Wednesday, September 4th when they travel to Susquehanna in a 7 p.m. start.
