LANGHORNE, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy defeated Cairn University, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon to secure their first Colonial States Athletic Conference victory of the season.

The Griffins (5-8-1, 1-2 CSAC) saw an exciting finish to close out the first half when junior Ryan Roedel (Langhorne, Pa. / Neshaminy) put the Griffins on top 1-0 with his goal at the 44:54 mark to beat the halftime horn.

In the second half, Gwynedd was able to close out the contest with just under eight minutes left when senior Trevor Sotell (Cinnaminson, N.J. / Cinnaminson) played a beautiful ball across the box that found the foot of Dan Panepresso (Philadelphia, Pa. / Archbishop Ryan) that he buried in the back of the net for the 2-0 advantage.

Freshman Ryan Oyola (Tabernacle, N.J. / Seneca) recorded two saves for his first collegiate shutout and his third win on the season. His counterpart Dave Shaffer made four stops for the Highlanders (7-5, 2-2 CSAC).

The Griffins return to action on Saturday, traveling on the road up to Baptist Bible. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
