Gwynedd Mercy 3, Immaculata 0

BOX SCORE

GWYNEDD VALLEY. PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy defeated Immaculata, 3-0, on Tuesday night in Colonial States Athletic Conference Action.

Freshman Kevin Sotell (Cinnaminson, N.J. / Cinnaminson) was the hat trick hero for the Griffins, scoring three goals for the game.

Sotell scored twice in the first half. First putting the Griffins on the board in the 36th minute when his shot found the back getting through traffic in the front of the net. His second came off of an assist from sophomore Rich Mychack (Philadelphia, Pa. / Father Judge) when he played his shot to the far post to beat the keeper to give Gwynedd a 2-0 halftime lead.

The second half saw plenty of drama with both teams battling hard on the pitch. The Mighty Macs were awarded a penalty shot but were unable to capitalize. The Griffins took the momentum and they were awarded a penalty shot of their own. Sotell was able to beat the keeper for his third goal of the night on the pk.

Matt Chilcote (Carlisle, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) made five saves to preserve the clean sheet for the Griffins. His best save of the night came with just under ten minutes remaining when he made a tremendous one handed save mid-air to deny a blast from the eighteen. Ryan Costello (Mays Landing, N.J. / Oakcrest) saw action as well for GM. William Hegarty and Chris Raudabaugh combined for four saves for IU.

The Griffins will close out the 2013 season when they travel to Marywood on Saturday. Kick-off is scheduled for a new time of 4 p.m
