GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- With a tough 4-3 loss to Keystone on Senior Day, the Griffins' quest for a playoff berth ended.
Gwynedd (5-12-1, 1-6 CSAC), who needed a win to stay alive, had an early uphill battle to climb as the Giants scored twice in the first 3:57 of the game. Keystone's Adam Kashuba would add his second on the day right before the half to put GM in a 3-0 deficit at the break.
In the 53rd minute, junior
Ryan Roedel (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) put the Griffins on the board as his shot was deflected off a Keystone defender for his sixth tally of the year. But the Giants (3-12-2, 3-4-1 CSAC) added their fourth goal minutes later as they executed off a free kick just outside the 18.
Less than a minute later, senior
Dan Panepresso (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) would score the first of his two goals, this one on an assist from Roedel and a late score in the 76th minute on an assist from sophomore
Brandon Rodriguez (Eden, Md./Parkside). Gwynedd would push for the equalizer, getting several good looks, but a final shot attempt from Roedel with under a minute sailed over the crossbar.
Both teams registered 12 shots each. The goalie combo of
Greg Gengaro (Bloomsbury, N.J./Phillipsburg) and
Matt Chilcote (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) made four stops. Dany O'Rourke had one save and an assist for Keystone.
