GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA, -- Gwynedd-Mercy picked up their first win of the season Tuesday night with a 2-1 victory over visiting Delaware Valley College.
The Griffins got on the board first with a goal at the 16:43 mark from freshman
Chloe Collipp (Levittown, Pa./Home Schooled). Sophomore
Rae Stengel (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) and junior
Maura Gifford (North Wales, Pa. / Lansdale Catholic) assisted as the trio hooked up on a beautiful cross using a pair of one-touch passes through the box giving Collipp for her first collegiate goal.
The Griffins were not done in the half, as senior
Meghan Bojanowski (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) scored on a breakaway goal at the 26:03 mark to take a 2-0 advantage into the break. The Aggies would find life in the second half on a goal by Marianne Morton who connected on a shot just outside of the eighteen yard box on an assist from Nicole Huff.
The GM defense buckled down the last ten minutes of the game and with good ball control held the Aggies to a lone corner kick to seal the Griffins first win of the season.
Freshman Goalie
Jess Tadley (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) picked up her first collegiate victory notching one save. Her counterpart Julie Burnell made eight saves on the night for the Aggies.
Gwynedd outshot Delaware Valley 18-5 and held a 5-2 corner kick advantage.
With the Victory GM improves to 1-2 on the season. The Griffins will be back in action over the weekend as they will host the Griffin Classic hosting Wesley College on Saturday and Muhlenberg College on Sunday. Both kick offs are slated for a 12 p.m. start.
