2012 CSAC Tournament Quarterfinal

WAYNE, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy won their CSAC Tournament Quarterfinal Game, as the fifth-seeded Griffins posted a 2-0 win over fourth-seeded Rosemont Thursday afternoon. The game was played at the YSC Complex in Wayne.

Casey Gaughan (Philadelphia, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) and Maura Gifford (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) scored goals for the Griffins (10-6-2) who will travel to either Marywood or Cabrini tomorrow in semifinal action depending on the outcome of tonight's other quarterfinal game.

Freshman Jess Tadley (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) made five saves on 10 shots to record her ninth shutout on the year.

Prior to the game, the team was able to meet with Lauren Cheney from U.S. National Team and received some encouraging words before their playoff quest. The talk helped extensively as the squad avenged a similar 2-0 loss to the Ravens in the regular season.

Gaughan scored her fourth goal right before halftime in the 42nd minute as Gifford set up the sophomore on a crossing pass for a 1-0 lead.

Gifford added an insurance tally at the 71 minute mark as she buried a direct kick just outside the box.
Andrea Dossantos made four saves for Rosemont (10-7).
