GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy snapped a five-game winless streak with a convincing 6-0 win over Bryn Athyn Tuesday afternoon.
Juniors
Tyler Ward (Philadelphia, Pa./North Catholic),
Trevor Sotell (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) and sophomore
Ryan Roedel (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) all scored two goals apiece as the Griffins (3-10-1) notched their second shutout on the season.
Ward added two assists, while Sotell, junior
Dan Panepresso (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and
Tyler Walter (Oakwood, Ohio/Oakwood) added a helper in the win.
Sotell made it 1-0 just 1:18 into the game as he put in a free kick just outside the box after a Bryn Athyn hand ball. Roedel headed in a nice cross into the box from Walter in the 27th minute where it stood until the second half.
In that second stanza, Gwynedd struck early again as Ward hooked up with Sotell 17 seconds into the half. Ward then netted his two goals in a 27 second span in the 58th minute.
As a team, GM outshot the Lions, 22-2, and had six corner kicks.
Goalie
Matt Chilcote (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) made one save as the freshman recorded his first collegiate shutout. Dustin Synnestvedt registered seven saves for Bryn Athyn (3-7).
