GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA -- Gwynedd-Mercy snapped their four-game winless streak Thursday night with a convincing 6-0 victory over visiting Valley Forge Christian College at the Griffin Athletic Complex.
The Griffins (4-6-2) were led by
Maura Gifford (North Wales, Pa. / Lansdale Catholic) who recorded her first career hat trick. The junior also added an assist.
GM got on the board early at the 9:44 mark on a goal by Gifford when she played a corner kick that found the back of the net. Gifford then would find a fellow junior
Alyssa Figueroa (Sewell, N.J. / Clearview) who placed her shot past the keeper for a 2-0 advantage at the 14:17 mark. Figueroa repaid the favor two minutes later to Gifford this time adding an assist to Gifford's second goal on the night.
Senior
Justine Bednarz (Willow Grove, Pa. / Little Flower) scored her first collegiate goal on an assist from sophomore
Sara Nance (Lansdowne, Pa. / Archbishop Prendergast) to give the Griffins a 4-0 advantage heading into the break.
Gifford scored her third tally in the second half at the 65:39 mark on an assist from her sister freshman
Megan Gifford (North Wales, Pa. / Lansdale Catholic). Junior
Michelle Pool (North Wales, Pa. / North Penn) would score the last goal for GM finding the back of the net at the 70:38 mark to score her first goal of the season.
Goalie
Jess Tadley (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill West) recorded her third shutout of the season as the freshman recorded one save on the evening. Her counterpart, Amanda McGinness recorded 16 saves for the Patriots (1-11-1).
GM outshot Valley Forge, 32-1, and held a 12-0 corner advantage.
Gwynedd-Mercy returns to action on Saturday as they travel to CSAC foe Centenary for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
