GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA -- Gwynedd-Mercy snapped their four-game winless streak Thursday night with a convincing 6-0 victory over visiting Valley Forge Christian College at the Griffin Athletic Complex.

The Griffins (4-6-2) were led by Maura Gifford (North Wales, Pa. / Lansdale Catholic) who recorded her first career hat trick. The junior also added an assist.

GM got on the board early at the 9:44 mark on a goal by Gifford when she played a corner kick that found the back of the net. Gifford then would find a fellow junior Alyssa Figueroa (Sewell, N.J. / Clearview) who placed her shot past the keeper for a 2-0 advantage at the 14:17 mark. Figueroa repaid the favor two minutes later to Gifford this time adding an assist to Gifford's second goal on the night.

Senior Justine Bednarz (Willow Grove, Pa. / Little Flower) scored her first collegiate goal on an assist from sophomore Sara Nance (Lansdowne, Pa. / Archbishop Prendergast) to give the Griffins a 4-0 advantage heading into the break.

Gifford scored her third tally in the second half at the 65:39 mark on an assist from her sister freshman Megan Gifford (North Wales, Pa. / Lansdale Catholic).  Junior Michelle Pool (North Wales, Pa. / North Penn) would score the last goal for GM finding the back of the net at the 70:38 mark to score her first goal of the season.

Goalie Jess Tadley (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill West) recorded her third shutout of the season as the freshman recorded one save on the evening.  Her counterpart, Amanda McGinness recorded 16 saves for the Patriots (1-11-1).
