BOX SCORE

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA -- The Griffins defeated Cairn University 6-0 on Senior Night at the GMC Athletic Complex for their third straight shutout win. Before the game, head coach Neil Johnson and the team honored its three seniors: Justine Bednarz (Willow Grove, Pa./Little Flower), Meghan Bojanowski (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) and Christine Michalski (Cochranville, Pa./Octorara).

Freshman Megan Gifford (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) put the Griffins on the board first as she broke past the Cairn defense to beat the keeper on a ball from sophomore Casey Gaughan (Philadelphia, Pa. / Villa Joseph Marie). Under four minutes later Bojanowski found the back of the net on a assist from junior Maura Gifford (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) for the 2-0 edge.

Gwynedd (7-7-2, 4-2-2 CSAC) struck again at the end of the half with thirty three seconds remaining as Bojanowski found a streaking Alyssa Figueroa (Sewell, N.J. / Clearview) who buried her shot to give GM a 3-0 lead heading into the break.

Just under twelve minutes into the second half, Gaughan scored her first goal on the evening on another assist from Maura Gifford. Bojanowski capitalized on a pass from junior Michelle Pool (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) for her second tally of the evening to put the Griffins up 5-0. With forty seconds remaining in regulation Bojanowski would repay Maura Gifford from her assist in the first half to help her find of the back of the net to close out the scoring.

Bednarz and Michalski spearheaded the Griffins back line which held the Highlanders to only two shots on the evening.

Freshman goalie Jess Tadley (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) recorded one save for her third consecutive shutout and her sixth on the year. Her counterpart Morgan Swan saved twelve shots on the evening for Cairn (4-11, 3-5 CSAC).

Gwynedd travels Saturday to play Keystone on the road. The game will be played at University of Scranton with a 4 p.m. kickoff.
