Men's Soccer On Playoff Brink After Loss

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy fell to Immaculata, 2-1, on Senior Day in a Colonial States Athletic Conference contest. The Griffins (5-13, 3-5 CSAC) could not overcome a second-half deficit, failing to gain crucial points in the chase for a spot in the upcoming CSAC soccer tournament.

The Mighty Macs took an early 1-0 lead over the Griffins with a goal from T.J. Jappah on an assist from Joe Walker at the 16:57 mark. The Griffins responded in a little over a minute to tie the contest as sophomore Trevor Sotell (Cinnaminson, N.J./Paul VI) put in his fourth goal on the season, assisted from Brandon Rooney (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson). 

It stayed 1-1 into the second half until IU's Nic Jorge found the back of the net to give the Mighty Macs the 2-1 for good in the 60th minute. Gwynedd-Mercy had a handful of opportunities to tie the game but could not find the equalizer.

Gwynedd-Mercy outshot the Mighty Macs, 18-15 but Immaculata held a 6-1 corner kick advantage.

Josh Garcia had eight saves for Immaculata (3-13-1, 2-6-1 CSAC). Senior Mike Leonard (Glen Mills, Pa /Cardinal O'Hara) record eight as well in the loss.

Prior to the contest, the team honored Leonard and fellow seniors Ryan Bozarth (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge), Tim Sweeney (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge ), and Tom Reed (Croydon, Pa./Conwell-Egan)

Gwynedd-Mercy will host Centenary College Tuesday Night at 7 p.m. with a must-win for a possible playoff spot.
