GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy defeated Immaculata, 2-1, on Tuesday helping the Griffins secure the #4 seed and a first-round home game in next week's CSAC Playoffs.
In that home game, Gwynedd will face these same Mighty Macs on Monday, November 1st at a time to be determined.
The Griffins (9-8-1, 7-3 CSAC) used goals from sophomore Sarah Cayer (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) in the first half and junior Kirstyn Varas (Essington, Pa./Interboro) in the early in the second to build a 2-0 lead. Junior Kasey Reid (Mercerville, N.J./Steinert) assisted on both tallies.
Immaculata (7-10-1, 5-5 CSAC) made things interesting with a late goal with under three minutes in regulation. IU kept the pressure on, as a corner kick attempt with over a minute was turned away by the GM defense.
Cayer scored her fourth goal in her last four games in the 37th minute. Cayer, Reid and junior Melissa Maguire (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) all converted on a corner kick.
Varas netted her fourth on the season in the 59th minute as she put home a centering pass in the box from Reid.
Gwynedd will conclude the regular season on Thursday with a non-league game at Misericordia starting at 7 p.m.
