RussMatt Play Lands DeCarlo and Hamilton On AEC Baseball Weekly Honor Roll

Lancaster, Pa. – (3/17/2025) – Gwynedd Mercy University junior infielder Jimmy DeCarlo (Ridley Park, Pa.) and freshman pitcher/infielder Chase Hamilton (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned recognition on this week’s Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Baseball Weekly Honor Roll for their play during the Griffins’ final week of competition at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. DeCarlo was one of the hottest Griffins during the spring trip and he went 8-for-19 over the last four games with a walk, four runs, and seven runs-batted-in (RBI). Meanwhile, Hamilton made two solid relief appearances and held Gwynedd Mercy University's opponents to just two hits and three walks while striking out five over 5.0 innings.

Neumann University junior outfielder A.J. Nardo (Elkton, Md.) was named the AEC Baseball Player of the Week, while Immaculata University senior Jordan Silvestri (Millville, N.J.) was recognized as the AEC Baseball Pitcher of Week. DeCarlo and Hamilton were joined on the Weekly Honor Roll by Marymount University freshman pitcher Jay Wandell (Bethesda, Md.), Centenary University (N.Y.) seniors Nick Payne (Hazleton, Pa.) and Jake Keenan (Glenmoore, Pa.), as well as Marywood University sophomores Tristan Gatchalain (Manorville, N.Y.) and Owen Reilly (Port Jervis, N.Y.).

Gwynedd Mercy University went 2-5 during their stay at the RussMatt Invitational, including a 1-3 finish highlighted by a 19-8 seven-inning, blowout of Bethany College (Mar. 11). With a Hamilton finished out Bethany College’s fourth at-bat and held them scoreless in their fifth while DeCarlo took part in the Griffins’ rally with an RBI-single in the fifth inning and an RBI-double in the sixth. DeCarlo finished 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI against the Bison, while Hamilton allowed only a hit and a walk while earning his first collegiate win (1-0).

Hamilton also made an extended relief appearance versus Anna Maria College as he struck out five Cats while allowing only a hit and two walks over 3.2 innings. Meanwhile, DeCarlo was 2-for-4 while scoring on a sixth-inning error at third base (7-5) and singling in a Griffin run home in the seventh inning (7-6). Unfortunately, the Red and Gold rally ran short as Anna Maria College used four ninth-inning scores to steal an 11-7 decision.

DeCarlo also went 1-for-5 with two RBI versus Albertus Magnus College (L, 7-19 on Mar. 12) and 2-for-5 with two RBI in an extra-inning loss to Fredonia State (L, 6-7 (10) on Mar. 15). He currently leads the Griffins in hits (21), doubles (6), total bases (27), and RBI (17).

Gwynedd Mercy University’s return home is marked for Wednesday, March 19, with a 3:00 p.m. home contest against Rosemont College.
