Defense Keeps Eagan On AEC Women’s Basketball Weekly Roll
Lancaster, Pa. – (12/2/2024) – Gwynedd Mercy University senior forward Alexis Eagan (Drexel Hill, Pa.) continued her stay on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Basketball Weekly Report with her defense in the Griffins’ recent 62-45 loss at Swarthmore College (Nov. 26) garnering her an Honor Roll mention. The Red and Gold captain totaled eight points, two rebounds, an assist, a block, and four steals in the loss to the Garnet.
Neumann University senior forward Lauren Klieber (Malvern, Pa.) was named the AEC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Centenary University (N.J.) senior guard Kaylie Elsbree (Howell, N.J.) was named the AEC Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week. Eagan was joined on the AEC Weekly Honor Roll by Centenary University senior guard Brie Opdyke (Belvidere, N.J.), as well as Marymount University seniors Samantha Bulik (York, Pa.) and senior forward Kelly Ceroll (Owings Mills, Md.).
Gwynedd Mercy University (3-3) visited Swarthmore College (3-4) for their final contest before the Thanksgiving holiday. Unfortunately for the Griffins, their recent two-game win streak came to an end with a 62-45 loss to Garnet. Both Gwynedd Mercy University and Swarthmore College struggled in the offensive zone as they combined for 54 turnovers. The Griffins were outrebounded 40-34 by the Garnet, resulting in 26 points in the paint. Freshman guard Brianna McFadden (Fairless Hills, Pa.) had a career night as the first-year finished with career-highs in points (10), three-pointers made (2), and steals (3). Eagan was 3-of-6 (.500) from the field with a pair of three-point baskets (2-of-4, .500).
Gwynedd Mercy University is back in action Monday, December 2, when they host Rowan University for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
