AEC Recognizes Etter and Gaston on Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll

Ayanna Gaston (Middletown, Del.) both garnered a spot on the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll for their opening-night performances in a 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-15 on Aug. 30) loss at Arcadia University. Centenary University (N.J.) sophomore outside hitter Poppy Skjonnemand (Southampton, U.K.) was recognized as the league’s Player of the Week, while the AEC Specialist of the Week title went to Marymount University senior setter Natalie Bialecki (Toledo, Ohio).
Gwynedd Mercy University (0-1) traveled down 309 to open their 2024 schedule with a Friday evening match at Arcadia University. Graduate outside hitter
Bria Purnell (Reading, Pa.) and Etter led the Red and Gold effort in the Knights' 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-15) victory; the former totaled a team-high 10 points (6 kills, 4 aces), while the latter totaled 9.0 points with a team-high nine kills and a.240 (9K-3E-25TA) hitting percentage.
Gwynedd Mercy University hit .096 (24K-16E-82TA) in the match with their best performance coming in the opening set; .250 (13K-5E-32TA). The Griffins totaled 24 kills and five aces in the match; Etter led in kills, while Purnell headlined the serving success with four aces. The former additionally provided two assists and five digs. Gaston finished the affair with 19 assists, five digs, and a block assist.
Gwynedd Mercy University continues their early-season schedule on Wednesday, September 4, when they visit Penn State Abington for a 7:00 p.m. match.
