2015 CSAC Tournament First-Round Game

BOX SCORE

SCRANTON, PA. -- The Griffins had their season come to an end in a 13-10 CSAC Tournament first-round playoff loss at Marywood on Saturday.

Fifth-seeded Gwynedd, who was down 7-2 at the half and later 10-2 in the second, ran out of time in their furious comeback attempt against the fourth-seeded Pacers.

Senior Kelsey Yori (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) had three goals for the Griffins while junior Brianna Greer (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and freshman Lauren Mitros (Glenside, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) each added two. Greer would have three of the team's nine draw controls while Yori collected a team-high four groundballs.

The teams were almost even at the start of the contest, as the score was 2-2 after 9:27 of play. Yori would net two goals via free-position attempts. However, it would be the last GMercyU point the rest of the stanza as Marywood (8-8) would take a 3-2 lead just under 10 minutes later and net four more in the final 9:46 of the period.

The Pacers registered three goals in the first seven minutes of the second for an eight-goal advantage. But then, the Griffins would put together a push to put them back within striking distance. Greer's goal at 21:58 kickstarted a four-goal spurt. Freshman Arianna Hensinger (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Camden Catholic) tallied with 14:16 to go, then Yori less than a minute later, and Mitros soon after that and it was a 10-6 contest with just over 12 to play.

Both teams would gradually trade goals, keeping that four-score cushion. Sophomore Aubrey Cook (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) put in the Griffins' tenth goal, to make it 13-10, but the Pacers would win the ensuing draw and run out the clock to secure the final score.

Danae Perrymond (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) also scored for Gwynedd while Greer and sophomore Haley Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) added assists on the day.

Freshman goalie Bria Gillard (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) made 15 saves.

Marywood had 10 different players register a goal. Dana Grossjung, Emily Osbourne, and Caitlin Watson each had two. Erin Healy led the Pacers with four points on a goal and three assists.

The loss marks the end of the team's four seniors: Yori, Sarah Lombardi (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville), Sara Nance (Lansdowne, Pa./Archbishop Prendergast), and Toshoy Esson (Norristown, Pa./East Norriton). Gwynedd Mercy finishes the season at 8-10.
